Josh.biz Technical Note 2 - added January 2007
Unable to uninstall / install Dreamweaver 8This issue effects Dreamweaver 8 users with Windows XP. KeywordsDreamweaver 8, uninstall, install, Windows Installer Clean Up, InstallShield, Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater, missing installation files. Overview and symptomsThis problem arose whilst trying to combat another problem – Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 causes Dreamweaver 8 for Windows not to remember FTP usernames and passwords (Josh.biz Technical Note 1). The Windows ‘Add or remove programs’ facility was unable to change or uninstall Dreamweaver 8, reporting missing installation files. After performing a manual uninstall (following partial instructions from Adobe), it remained impossible to install Dreamweaver afresh. Each time, an error message reported the same missing installation files. FindingsThis problem appears to be directly related to an issue with InstallShield rather than Dreamweaver 8. See Adobe TechNote: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=785362aa If this link fails consistently please . SolutionAt the point I had resigned to reinstalling my entire system I noticed a program listed in my Start menu, “Windows Installer Clean Up”. This was installed previously to successfully cure a similar problem. After starting the software I selected Dreamweaver 8 in the list and selected remove. Immediately afterwards, I was able to successfully install Dreamweaver 8 and the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater.
