Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 causes Dreamweaver 8 for Windows not to remember FTP usernames and passwordsThis issue effects Dreamweaver 8 users with Internet Explorer 7 (Windows XP) KeywordsDreamweaver, installation, update, internet explorer 7, FTP, usernames, passwords, Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater. Overview and symptomsSince upgrading from Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 to version 7, Dreamweaver repeatedly (most often after rebooting) fails to store / remember FTP usernames and passwords. FindingsThe problem has been clearly identified by Adobe and is confirmed as relating directly to the installation of Internet Explorer 7. Visit Dreamweaver TechNote - Dreamweaver 8 for Windows loses FTP login settings (Adobe) Adobe point out that Internet Explorer 7 was released after Dreamweaver 8 and therefore was not tested with Dreamweaver 8 and earlier. SolutionInstall the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater. Side notesAfter ‘reportedly’ installing the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater successfully and checking the new version number, the update had failed. Adobe highlight this subsequent problem and link to a separate web page, ‘Can't install Dreamweaver 8 updaters for Windows after cancelling updater installer’. One problem seems to lead to another. Trying to restore Dreamweaver with the latest update was a stressful experience and almost resulted in a reinstallation of Windows. However, a simple and easy cure was discovered at the final moment. It might not work for everyone but it did for us (separate technical note): Dreamweaver installation / update (Josh.biz Technical Note 2)
